Can I use a stylist to help me prepare my home for a spring sale?

August, 2015 by

With the traditional Spring selling season just around the corner, there will typically be more homes on the market for sale. Therefore it’s essential your home stands out from the crowd.

This is where a professional home stylist can help. They can really help you set your home apart. Moreover, professional home styling can add thousands of dollars to the value of a home – and much more in some cases. In fact, styling specialist, Home Presentation Property Styling, claims that the average rate of return on home styling is $3 for every $1 spent.

Sharonne Fourie from Home Presentation Property Styling says that while home styling is the new black in the Sydney market, some professional staging assistance could be worthwhile no matter where you live. “Styling enables prospective buyers to see the best possible advantages of your home,” says Sharon. “If the canvas is not clear and is cluttered with old furniture this will be a significant distraction for buyers. Without styling, your property will be down a couple of rungs on the ladder compared to the competition.”

“Styling also makes a massive difference to the photography used to present your home,” says Hilary Camden from Interior Makeovers Furniture Hire. “A vacant home doesn’t present all that well in photographs.”

Typically a home stylist will offer a variety of services based on your budget and needs. For those who want to have a crack at styling their home themselves but would like some extra tips, most stylists will offer an advisory service. As part of this service, the stylist will visit your home and provide you with an advisory report outlining how you should best present and de-clutter your property. Typically you can expect to pay up to $500 for an advisory report.

If you then want the stylist to implement the recommendations in the advisory report, the fee for this service will start from around $1,500 to $2,500 for a small apartment – and up to $10,000 plus for a larger house. This charge may or not include the cost of hiring furniture and will vary from stylist to stylist.
